Internet = Google?
Written by Lee Doyle on January 11, 2008 – 5:47 pmI’m sat here doing my normal internet browsing when I look at my FireFox browser and it hits me, close to everything I use to do anything is made or owned by Google. My top 10 things I use every day are:
- Google Reader
- Gmail
- Google Search
- Google Blog Search
- Google Calender
- Feedburner
- Gtalk
- YouTube
- Blogger (Most blogs I read use it)
- Google Sitemap (XML)
Only site I use that is not eaither a blog or forum is Digg… hope they buy it
So is it just me? Or is everything feeling like Google run the show? I would normally be up in arms about it but I respect Google so much. They are big on open source and Blogger now uses OpenID and loads of other blogging log ins which you would never get from Microsoft or other big names. They now have a big Linux archive and there own open source site.
I don’t see anything wrong with them at the moment, I have read a few things about them but with any company you get some haters.
I am happy, one log in gets me all this! I do use other sites a bit but fingers crossed they all get owned by Google oneday.

Spring Cleaning…. BlogStyle
Written by Lee Doyle on December 27, 2007 – 1:15 pmThe past few months I have been working on the SEO of my blog and found some amazing things doing it. I have learnt so much about how Google and others work and what they look for. One thing this has shown me is how many mistakes I have made in the past with tagging and permalinks. I never even knew permalinks could make such a big difference!
Last night I spent time going through my categories and sorting them out so I never had so many, I also sorted my permalink problems out. Wordpress is amazing for this and makes it such a interesting thing to do.
I know I have much more to learn! But I do think that doing it the hard way is the best way and much better then reading from a book, as now I remember everything much better.
Since doing all these things I have found my hits have gone up over 200% over the past month or two. And i would say most of it just comes from simple things like permalinks and tags and maybe a bit from using RSS feeds with feedburner.
Any help anyone needs please email or comment and I shall gladly help
