How to fix Gmail so it works on https (Fix errors)

Written by Lee Doyle on September 21, 2008 – 9:37 pm

I have been stuck today trying to find out why my Gmail notifier is no longer working. When I login Gmail gives me this message “Cannot connect to your mailbox”.

Well I now know why! Its because I set-up Gmail to use https which encrypts my data when using Gmail (Why Google has not always done this as default is beyond me). Well this now opens up a questions as to why Google has been letting me send my password unencrypted!

Well if you want to keep using the Google Notifier you have no option to use https, so if you still want to use it you have to turn it off in Gmail :( how stupid!

Well I have a fix for you! Its very simple and you will not need any computer skillz to do it (Just a finger).

  1. Download this: Click here
  2. Unzip the contents (2 files gmailfix.reg and gmailfix_unfix.reg)
  3. Open the file: gmailfix.reg
  4. You done!
  5. I added a unfix for people who wish to put it back to how it was.

Here is the contents of the files. i put this so people can see that I have not added any bad details… And you can also make your own.

The fix
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Gmail\Flags]
“url”=”https://mail.google.com/mail/”

The unfix
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Gmail\Flags]
“url”=-

Google Chrome BETA Review

Written by Lee Doyle on September 3, 2008 – 12:20 am

Unlike most of you I never even knew Google was working on a browser… well I thought they would but not until they maybe had their own OS like Goobuntu or something.

Anyway, this ia short review of the new browser.

First of all I just want to say how sexy it looks! I will not be switching from firefox but I sure will use the new Shortcut Application feature! This is the gold dust me for as I use most of Googles tools like Gmail and their Reader.

For people who are not sure what this is ill let you know. have you ever liked a tool online that you thought would be a cool thing to use as a program but thought “Ill have to boot up my browser and then I have all the extra userbars that take up all the space” well now you dont have to worry! Just create a shortcut and Google Crome opens the tool/webpage up like a normal windows (Your OS) application! It even gives you a cool Icon if the webpage uses a ico file. Read more »
