Why I am ashamed to be Britsh right now

I have always been proud to be British and have always been proud of its history. I found myself today feeling ashamed of how our Prime minister (Gordon Brown) has acted on the British workmen that have been Kidnapped for over a year.

I feel the only reason out Prime minister has now acknoleged that they have been kidnapped is because a newspaper got their hands on a new video. Before this we have seen nothing in the news and no commitment from our own Prime minister about his own people.

I know these men took some risks when working in Iraq, but they still deserved the respect of acknolegment from their country.

Why has he waited a year before doing anything? Why does it take publicity to get his ass moving?

These men have been missing for a year! Their families have been told to keep quite about everything and just wait… Wait for what? Wait for their heads to be delivered to their doorstep?

I know publicly acknowledging this would give the kidnappers more power… But they will get that anyway! You cant just leave people to fend for themselves at risk of having their heads carved off!

We need to grow some balls and let our countries heroes know that when they get into any trouble their own country will stand by them! And out Prime minister Gordon Brown needs to grow some Scottish balls!

    Heya Lee,
That is really bad to hear and I think that politicians really need to take responsibility when this sort of things occur. Especially when it is the workers of your own country, their lives at stake.

First off, I’m not British. Secondly, my thoughts and prayers go out to the people and families that are affected.

But, these individuals volunteered to go where they went. They went there knowing that the government wouldn’t be able to protect them there. And unfortunately, the risk they took came to fruition. You can’t blame the country for that.

As for Gordon Brown… Well, he seems to have a knack of pissing people off. Be it the “waste less food” comments or this. But then, do we want leaders we like personally, or that get things done? I’d encourage you to get active in your country’s political process if you want something different. Ranting on a website will only go so far, you know.

As much as I wish it would, acknowledging their fate won’t bring them home. You’ll get more mileage out of prayer.

I agree that they took a big risk in going to Iraq, but the fact that my country just stood back and did nothing is just plain wrong. They forced the families of the people kidnapped to keep quite and did not publicly even acknowledge that anything had happened.

I am also not a religious man so I do not think and prayer would help… But if it works for you or them its all good.

I am also involved in politics on a mild scale… I will one day take more of a active role in it.
